Mitoku Macrobiotic Sun-Dried Wild Wakame
Mitoku Macrobiotic Sun-Dried Wild Wakame
A rare delicacy, this superior-quality wakame grows naturally, not cultivated like many varieties. It is hand-harvested in the spring using knives attached to long bamboo poles, then washed and sun-dried in the traditional manner. Delicious in miso soup, vegetable dishes, and in salads with a miso-lemon or miso-rice vinegar-sesame seed dressing.
Wakame is in the news!
Why do Japanese women who eat their traditional diet have such beautiful, young looking skin, even as they age? Researchers have found a nutrient in the delicious sea vegetable "wakame", a staple of the Japanese traditional diet, that provides remarkable anti-aging health and beauty benefits by inhibiting the action of an enzyme that has a lot to do with collagen loss and sagging skin. This recently discovered nutrient in wakame helps keep your skin (as well as all the connective tissue within your body) strong, smooth and supple.
Wakame also helps heal inflamed skin due to its high levels of B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6, and B12, and surprisingly, wakame is also a very good source of important Omega 3 oils.
Like all sea vegetables wakame has abundant amounts of minerals and trace minerals important for good health.
You get the most of wakame's wonderful health benefits when you it it in the whole, unprocessed form, but in the U.S. it can be hard to find truly high-quality wakame from unpolluted waters
Our Mitoku brand San Riku wakame is from the pristine natural environment of the remote fishing villages on the San Riku coast of northeastern Japan. The cold pacific waters are clean and clear, the perfect environment for this nutrient rich food.
It is also one of the quickest and easiest sea vegetables to prepare and use. Start by simply soaking a couple of inches of dry wakame in water for a few minutes to re-hydrate then chop it into small pieces. After that you can put it in miso or other soups, or use raw in an Asian style salad mixed with sliced cucumber and umeboshi vinegar. It has a soft and delicate texture that goes well in many dishes.
